The former presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, was deported yesterday from Angola to Mozambique, after being prevented from entering Angolan territory, where he was going to take part in an event African opposition party.

According to the information we have had access to, the Angolan migration authorities have not provided any kind of justification for banning and deporting Mondlane.

The Mozambican politician was detained at Luanda Airport on February 4 for around 8 hours.

At the same meeting, and with the same outcome, was the deputy president of the Kenyan Senate, Edwin Sifuna.

On the other hand, the former president of Botswana, Ian Seretse Khama, after being detained for around 8 hours at the air border, decided to leave Angola because he felt disrespected and humiliated. During the time he was detained, he had no access to humanitarian assistance, such as food.

He said that before leaving Botswana for Angola he informed the authorities in the hope that the parties would communicate about his travel and stay.

The former President of Colombia, Andrés Pastrana Arango, who faced similar circumstances, made the same decision to return to his country.

The Angolan government has made all the protocolary apparatus of the state available to send those targeted back to their countries.

International delegations who were going to take part in the event have also left Angola because they no longer feel safe in the country.
