Three new industrial units for processing agricultural products are planned for Niassa province under the National Industrialize Mozambique Program.
We understand that construction is underway in the city of Lichinga for a bean processing plant, which is expected to absorb the large quantities of beans that abound in the market for processing and placement in the domestic and international markets.
The implementation of the factory will also stimulate the producers of the crop to increase production, which involves increasing the cultivation areas and the use of new agricultural technologies, as well as ensuring new jobs. In the administrative post of Chiuta, Mecanhelas district, considered the largest rice producer in Niassa, a processing plant of this cereal that is the basis of the diet of many families will be implemented.
In the still current agricultural season, the district of Mecanhelas produced about 56,000 tons of rice in an area of 17.2 thousand hectares, the largest exploited in the region after that of corn.
The Economic Activities sector states that rice production has seen a notable increase in areas and harvests in the last three years. It assures that in the 2021/22 harvest, which is about to begin, the cultivation areas will experience a significant increase and, for this purpose, producers are being mobilized.
Mapping of susceptible areas for rice production is also underway. The Matia area, with abundant wetlands for most of the year, has already been selected for local producers to receive inputs distributed under Sustenta, a national program to integrate family farming into productive value chains.
On the other hand, the Niassa province had a massive distribution of soybean seeds as part of an initiative to increase the harvest of this crop. And the results of the first year of mass production are considered satisfactory.
According to Dinis Vilanculos, it was in this context that a project was drawn up aiming at the implementation of a soy processing plant in the district of Cuamba.
The soybean production will reinforce the availability of raw material for the cooking oil factory under construction in that city, whose inauguration is scheduled for this month. The governor urges the district governments to choose local crops considered to be a priority, evaluating all the conditions that interfere positively in order to obtain positive results.
The idea is to stimulate and support the private sector to set up manufacturing units for processing and placing the results in the different markets, an initiative through which jobs can be created.
