Niassa: Nyusi wants more private sector investment for tourism development

Niassa: Nyusi quer mais investimento do sector privado para o desenvolvimento do turismo

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has challenged the private sector to continue investing in the culture and tourism sector in order to exploit the cultural diversity that the country possesses, with a view to boosting the development of communities and the economy in general.

Nyusi launched this challenge on Monday (20) in Metangula, Lago district, Niassa province, in the north of the country, at the inauguration of the Jamine Bay Hotel and Spa, a new tourist resort built from scratch on the shores of Lake Niassa, the third largest lake on the African continent.

For the Mozambican Head of State, with the construction of this infrastructure, the country will become a reference player in the region's tourism industry, offering reliable and trustworthy services throughout the industry chain in the country.

"Today we are not just celebrating the hotel, we are celebrating the fruits of a struggle in which Niassa's children have been major protagonists, along with other compatriots. The entry into operation of the hotel extends the comparative advantage in the massification of tourism in Niassa province, whose potential is quite impressive, but still very little exploited", said Nyusi, quoted by AIM.

"In this way, we want to encourage the private sector and entrepreneurial initiatives, including at community level, to exploit the rich cultural mosaic as a source of income generation and development for the country," he said.

The facility, according to Nyusi, will serve as a hub for attracting high quality tourists due to its location and the diverse tourist and cultural potential that exists in the province.

In order to boost tourism in the region and in the country in general, the head of state urged the executive to increase the volume of national and international tourists, stimulating the diversification of products and services.

Nyusi emphasized the need for the country to assert itself in a competitive market, aware that the entire perimeter of the coast of Lake Niassa has infrastructures with credits already in place.

The Jasmin Bay and Spa Hotel is the first of its kind in Niassa province and its construction cost 120 million meticais from national private investment.
