Mozambique's tourism sector continued to grow, despite the political and social turmoil in the last quarter of 2024, with 208 new businesses opening last year.
According to a publication in the magazine "Around the World"Among the establishments inaugurated are 68 accommodation units, 108 food and beverage establishments and 32 travel agencies, with a focus on the country's main tourist cities and provinces. The government survey also indicates that 1,231 professionals have joined the sector in operational areas.
With the aim of encouraging the emergence of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the tourism sector, the state has funded six projects with a total value of 5.5 million meticais. The initiatives cover the provinces of Zambézia, Tete and Gaza, as well as the city of Maputo.
The growth recorded contrasts with the estimated losses of around 500 million meticais caused by the cancellation of bookings during the festive season, between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
According to the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), the post-election protests that took place during this period directly affected the performance of the sector, which is considered one of the most important in the context of the high season.
