Mozambique becomes an exporter of refined sugar

Mozambique becomes an exporter of refined sugar. At the global level the production reaches about 10 thousand tons per season. The information was given by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Correia, during a visit to launch the next agricultural campaign in Sofala province, Búzi district.

The governor also said that the sector has been registering a slight increase in production, after having been in decline in recent years, due to climatic factors.

Proof of this is that "for the second consecutive year Mozambique is no longer importing refined sugar and exports have risen this year.

Currently "we are exporting to Italy, Spain and we are supplying the national needs," the minister said.

"We are pleased to note that this industry, which is linked to the sugar farming sector, is in full recovery. It is projected that next year it may exceed break even," added Celso Correia.

Celso Correia also advanced that Búzi may have a very big increase in terms of production in the next campaign because "the road is getting ready. This, says the minister, means an opportunity for producers to be able to place their products because they have the market, which is the industry.
