The president of the African Development Bank (ADB), Akinwumi Adesina said that the institution he heads is working with partners to help achieve the 24 billion liquefied gas project, which will make Mozambique the third largest supplier of liquefied gas in the world."
Akinwumi Adesina, who was speaking at a press conference closing the annual meetings of the African Development Bank, which were held last week in Accra, said that in Africa there is no shortage of gas sources. "Ghana has deposits, Ivory Coast has just found gas, Senegal has gas, Angola has gas," he exemplified.
He reiterated that ADB is committed to energy transition and renewable energy. "86% of our investment in electricity generation comes from renewables." Adesina stressed that "natural gas is critical to the energy security" of the continent.
He argued that Europe should look to Africa to reduce its dependence on Russian gas and considered it urgent to build the trans-Atlantic pipeline to link the two continents.
"We need gas infrastructure, not only for exports, but also on the continent. I see it as a priority that Africa becomes a market that can supply gas to Europe, but we have to make sure we have the infrastructure," he concluded.
