The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Correia, and the UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Mozambique, Katherine Fletcher, attended the "UK-Mozambique Agricultural Technologies Business Forum" last Friday in Maputo. The meeting aimed to fortify the cooperative relations between the nations in the area of agriculture.
During the event there was talk about investment opportunities in Mozambique as well as the experiences of the United Kingdom in the sector. Several national and local companies, active in the agricultural and technological sector, attended the Forum.
Fletcher said that "the UK Government is committed to working in partnership with Mozambique to further develop the Agriculture sector, as the country is an ideal destination for UK exporters and investors."
The official also stressed that British companies employ more than 400,000 Mozambican workers who "are making an important contribution to this prosperous future," but the major objective is to create "more partnerships.
For his part, Correia said that Mozambique is open to investments in agriculture and highlighted the important work that has been done in the scope of the Sustenta Program, for which British companies have already supplied agricultural equipment.
The Agricultural Technologies Business Forum marked the end of Katherine Fletcher's visit to Mozambique, which lasted from October 11 to 15.
