Mozambique available to support Malawi in railway line project

Mozambique is willing to support Malawi to complete the railway line project linking the Mutarara district in Tete to Marka in Nsanje in Malawian territory.

The support of Mozambique comes at a time when Malawi is facing difficulties of various kinds, which are preventing the evolution of the project to connect the two countries by rail from the port of Beira.

The President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi announces that Mozambique's support is inserted in the context of developing infrastructure and promoting industrialization, two anchor areas for economic integrity in the region.

"There is a need for trade exchanges, electrical, rail and road interconnections, industrialization of the two countries, tourism and other economic cooperation activities to evolve to the same level of excellence that characterizes the political and diplomatic relations between Mozambique and Malawi," Nyusi said this Monday in Malawi.

For his part, the President of Malawi and SADC Lazarus Chakwera, addressed the issue of terrorism in Cabo Delgado, stating that "the fight against terrorism in Mozambique is at the top of the agenda of its leadership in the southern African region.

"The countries of the Southern African Development Community, should not be oblivious to the macabre acts carried out by terrorists in Mozambique, as this represents a threat to the entire southern region of Africa," Chakwera concluded.
