Mozambique continued to record a slight deflation (price reduction) in July compared to the previous month, from 0.52% to 0.24% announced this Wednesday the National Statistics Institute (INE).
According to INE, data collected last July in the cities of Maputo, Beira and Nampula, when compared with the previous month, indicate that the country registered deflation of around 0.24%.
As in the previous month, the Food and non-alcoholic beverages division was the most prominent, contributing about 0.25 percentage points (pp) to the total monthly change, according to the CPI bulletin released Wednesday.
"As for the monthly variation by product, it is important to highlight the drop in prices of tomatoes (3.8%), cabbage (10.7%), lettuce (14.1%), fresh fish (1.6%), cabbage (15.7%), second-hand light motor vehicles (1.0%) and cassava flour (14.7%). These contributed in total to the monthly variation with about negative 0.30pp," reads the document.
However, according to INE, some products with emphasis on horse mackerel (1.5%), charcoal (1.9%), chairs (6.1%), cooking oil (0.8%), capulanas (0.6%), dried fish (0.5%) and lemon (24.1%), countered the downward trend, by contributing about 0.14pp positive.
