The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIRERE) has committed itself to creating an energy future that respects the environment and promotes economic and social development through access to energy for all by 2030.
The National Energy Director, Marcelina Mataveia, said that in addition to ensuring access to energy, the institution's mission is "to create an energy future that respects our environment and promotes economic and social development"
She was speaking yesterday in Maputo at the opening of the 2nd Bi-Annual Off-Grid Energy Forum in Mozambique, organized by MIREME and partners.
The event, which was attended by experts, investors, government representatives and sector organizations, addressed the importance of renewable energies and sustainable financing to accelerate rural electrification and boost the country's socio-economic development.
The Forum highlighted the preliminary results of the Integrated Energy Access Plan (PIAE), an initiative that combines technology and innovation by integrating geospatial data, allowing informed decisions to be made on three essential pillars: electrification, access to improved kitchens and the productive use of energy.
The document shows that the energy sector in Mozambique is challenged to guarantee energy access to 68% of the population through the conventional electricity grid and 32% through off-grid solutions, which will require an increase of 38.9% of the current coverage by 2030. (Source: MIREME)
