Construction work on the Temane - Maputo electricity transmission line will be completed by the end of this year, guarantees the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electricidade de Moçambique.
The project covers 560 kilometers and could benefit one million new consumers in the provinces of Inhambane, Gaza and Maputo.
"The project started last year. This lot should have been finished in February. It has suffered some delays. We're working on a recovery plan and we expect to finish this project by the end of this year," said Marcelino Gildo.
The line that will connect Inhambane and Maputo comprises three substations, namely Vilankulo-Chibuto; Chibuto-Matalane; and Matalane-Maputo.
The materialization of this plan, which is already at 56%, will mark the conclusion of the first phase called "Espinha Dorsal" (Backbone).
The project could lead to an increase of 16% in electricity generation capacity for the domestic and international markets.
The project is valued at 500 million dollars and has a donation of 300 million dollars from the World Bank and 33 million dollars from the African Development Bank. The Islamic Development Bank has lent 110 million dollars and 36 million dollars from the OPEC Fund for International Development. (Domingo/TVM).
