Investments in Mozambican tourism reached 7.3 MM$ last year

Investimentos no turismo moçambicano atingiram 7,3 MM$ no ano passado

Last year, Mozambique saw investments of around 7.3 billion dollars in tourism, which corresponds to more than 40% of the country's investment projects.

According to the President of the Republic, who was speaking on Wednesday at the inauguration ceremony of Ponta Mbembene Lodge, a tourist resort located in Maputo National Park (PNM), "tourism absorbed more than 42% of the investment projects registered in 2023 with a total value of 7.3 billion dollars, with the sector contributing 8.9% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), compared to 7.4% in 2022".

This trend, according to Filipe Nyusi, "is the result of our government action reflected in the improvement of the business environment, the development of support infrastructures, the recovery of wildlife and the training of human resources".

For the President of the Republic, the inaugurated pousada is part of one of the best tourist attractions in the country, as well as another effort to protect nature.

"When we don't do concrete things, like creating spaces, nothing will happen. I hope that the local community will be able to enjoy the benefits of operating the enterprise, including the training and qualification of people as part of the workforce," said the government official, quoted by AIM.

The Mozambican statesman also added that as well as contributing to the public accounts, events of this nature "will contribute to the rate of exploitation of forest and wildlife resources for local communities living in and around conservation areas".
