Inflation in the United States should lead Fed to raise interest rates by 1%

Inflação nos Estados Unidos deve levar Fed a aumentar taxas de juro até 1%

Inflation of 9.1% in June in the United States may lead the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) to raise interest rates, up to 1%, at its scheduled meeting on July 26-27, Reuters reports..

"Everything is on the table," said Atlanta Federal Reserve President Raphael Bostic, quoted by the news agency and the Economic newspaper.

"The inflation numbers suggest that the trajectory is not moving in a positive way," Raphael Bostic added.

Another hypothesis put forward by analysts is that the Fed will raise interest rates by 0.75%.

Regardless of the level of interest rate hikes, BA&N research said Thursday that expectations of an "aggressive" interest rate hike at the US Federal Reserve's meeting, scheduled for July 26-27, "are accentuating" fears of an economic recession.

Inflation figures in the United States exceeded analysts' forecasts for 8.8%, and is also the highest in more than 40 years.

These inflation figures were influenced by increases in areas such as energy and food.

US President Joe Biden had noted last Wednesday that inflation figures were "unacceptably high," adding that energy compressed nearly half of the monthly increase in inflation, quoted by CNN.

The governor however pointed out that this inflation figure "does not fully reflect" the decrease that has been taking place in the price of fuel for almost 30 days.

Joe Biden also said that fighting inflation should be the country's "top priority."
