Inflation in Angola below 20% for the first time since April 2020

Inflação em Angola abaixo dos 20% pela primeira vez desde Abril de 2020

The national consumer price index (IPCN) in Angola stood at 19.78% in August, a decrease of 6.31 percentage points compared to the same month a year earlier and the lowest value since April 2020, when it reached 20.81%.

According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) quoted by Lusa, the Food and non-alcoholic beverages category was the one that contributed the most to the increase in the general price level with 0.35 percentage points during the month of August.

This was followed by Miscellaneous Goods and Services with 0.08 percentage points, Clothing and Footwear and Health with 0.06 percentage points each, and Furniture, Household Equipment and Maintenance with 0.05 percentage points, while the remaining categories had contributions of less than 0.05 percentage points.

In monthly terms, the CPI registered a variation of 0.76% from July to taste 2022. Comparing the monthly variations (July to August 2022) there was a deceleration of 0.05 percentage points, while in homologous terms (August 2021 to August 2022) there is a deceleration in the current variation of 1.37 percentage points.

The provinces that registered the least variation in prices were Moxico (0.60%), Uíge (0.62%) and Bié (0.63 %), while Zaire with 1.13%, Cuanza Norte with 1.01% and Cuanza Sul with 0.96%, presented the greatest variation.

Clothing and Footwear was the class that registered the highest monthly increase in prices, with a variation of 1.69%, highlighting also the price increases seen in Health (1.68%), Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (1.32%) and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (1.25%).
