Inflation soars to new record high

Inflação dispara e atinge novo recorde

Mozambique reached, in June, a new record of price increases. Inflation reached 10.81%, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).

This is the highest in the last four years and nine months, and June was a tight month for families. Purchasing power was reduced, with the highest price rise, at 10.81%, in the last four years.

Inflation stood at 9.31% in May, rising by 150 basis points in June, the new Consumer Price Index report indicates.

The global inflationary climate caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine and the increase in fuel prices are behind the rise in costs, which has been going on since the beginning of the year.

In cumulative terms, since the beginning of 2022, the general price level in Mozambique has worsened by 6.44%.

The food, non-alcoholic beverages and transport divisions were, in year-on-year terms, the ones that registered the greatest price changes.
