With an investment of 640 million meticais, the enterprise should have 12 pavilions, each one with a capacity to house 56 thousand chicks in each cycle, with an annual production of 5 million chickens.
The inauguration of the factory unit, located in Namaacha, Maputo province, was witnessed by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Celso Correia.
In his speech, Celso Correia, pointed out that the Government is determined to combat chicken smuggling, ensuring that there have been efforts at the central level and in local administrations in this direction. In a moment of uncertainty, as a result of COVID-19, the governor highlighted that the national production is increasing.
"We are seeing, right now, an increase in production on the order of 16.6 %, compared to the same period last year. The big challenge has to do with feed availability, but that even so, the sector is seeing improvements. Smuggling is one of the constraints for the growth of the sector in the country and we are sensitive to this scenario," he said.
The governor also pointed out that Maputo province will have more extension workers.
"Before there were just over 90. Now, there are more than 100% personnel. Thanks to this training work, the country will have 2,000 more extensionists in the next agricultural campaign, which can help in the efforts to increase production and productivity," he pointed out.
After the inauguration, 13 tractors were delivered to boost production in Maputo province, and 150 motorcycles to an equal number of extension workers, who were sworn in and ready to help producers in the districts where they were assigned. The referred equipment is part of the SUSTENTA project.
