The government, through the Ministries of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources and the Economy and Finance, has approved a joint Order that readjusts the road tolls in Maputo, on National Road number 4 (EN4), and in Moamba.
The measure takes effect on September 1, 2023, according to the Order to which MZNews has had access.
On the Maputo toll (EN4), class 1 light vehicles will pay 40 meticais; class 2 heavy vehicles, 130 meticais; class 3 heavy vehicles, 375 meticais; and class 4 heavy vehicles, 550 meticais.
At the Moamba toll, light vehicles in class 1 will pay 240 meticais; heavy vehicles in class 2, 600 meticais; heavy vehicles in class 3, 1,200 meticais; and heavy vehicles in class 4, 1,800 meticais.
The document states that the readjustment of toll rates is provided for in the Concession Contract for the N4 Road (Maputo/Witbank Road) "when [the rates] are out of date and unable to cover maintenance costs and provided that the requirements for this are met".
The Order in question dates from August 3, 2023, and appears in the Boletim da República of August 18, 2023, First Series, 160.
