Government mobilizes funds from China for rehabilitation and widening of EN1

Governo mobiliza fundos da China para reabilitação e ampliação da EN1

The government is mobilizing funds from China to finance the rehabilitation and widening of National Road Number 1, on the Marracuene-Xai-Xai stretch.

The information was provided by the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, in Gaza province.

Cited by Radio MozambiqueMesquita said that the Mozambican government needed around 155 million US dollars to carry out the work, including the rehabilitation of the bridges along this stretch.

Mesquita noted that in this project, the government intends to rehabilitate, widen and increase two lanes on the Marracuene/Xai-Xai stretch, which is about 190 kilometers long.

He said that the ideal would be to build a road with four lanes, but given the lack of funds, the current two lanes will initially be rehabilitated and widened, in an evolutionary project.

While the funding doesn't arrive, a team is already on the ground carrying out pothole repair work along the road.
