Government approves revision of the electricity law

The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday the revision of the electricity law to adapt it to new challenges. This revision aims to make room for the adoption of "all kinds of energy sources" in order to achieve universal access in the country.

"The revision aims to adapt the law to the dynamics and challenges of universal access to quality and reliable energy using all energy sources," said the Mozambican government spokesman, Filimão Suaze.

He was speaking to the media, moments after the 33rd ordinary session of the Council of Ministers at the Presidency of the Republic.

According to the government spokesman, the revision of the law, which should be submitted to the Mozambican parliament in the coming days, will give priority to the use of renewable energy sources.

"The law applies to the production, storage, transport, distribution and marketing of electricity in the country, as well as its export and import," Filimão Suaze said.

The Mozambican government aims to achieve two million new connections by 2024, benefiting more than 10 million people, increasing from 34% to 64% the population (30 million inhabitants) with energy at home.
