The government, through the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), has announced the start of the basic engineering design (FEED) phase of the "Rovuma LNG" project, in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin, with the award and signing of competitive contracts for the detailed engineering, procurement and construction of the project..
According to the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, this phase, which should last approximately 16 months, represents the last stage before the Final Investment Decision (FID) is made.
"This is a positive sign that the project is taking shape and we encourage the concessionaires to continue to take firm steps towards obtaining the associated costs that will make it a reality," said Carlos Zacarias, at the 59th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM-2024), which has been taking place in the municipality of Marracuene since Monday.
In a Sunday newspaperThe president of ExxonMobil-Mozambique, Frank Kretschmer, said that the award and execution of the FEED contracts is a significant step in the development of the world-class Rovuma LNG project.
"We will continue to work with the Government of Mozambique to maximize the benefits that this project will bring to the people of Mozambique for many years to come," said Kretschmer.
The Rovuma LNG project will produce, liquefy and market natural gas from reservoirs in the Area 4 block of the Rovuma Basin, and includes the construction of 12 modules of 1.5 million tons per year (MTA) each.
The modular and electrical design of Rovuma LNG, with prefabricated modules to be assembled in Afungi, is expected to increase the competitiveness and flexibility of the project and the design will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
