The lack of foreign currency on the Mozambican market is already being felt in some sectors, such as transport. In this case, two petrol stations have already spoken out about the difficulties and warned of a possible scenario of fuel shortages and price rises.
Petrol companies say that the lack of foreign currency at commercial banks has impacted imports, which may result in temporary adjustments to supplies to customers.
For example, in a statement to which we have had access, Puma Energy said that in order to get around the situation, contacts are being made with interested parties, including banks and the government.
"If there is no significant progress in the next three working days, a reassessment of our operations, including sales volume, will be inevitable," it reads.
A document from Vivo Energy, quoted by STVIn a statement, he said that Engen had stopped supplying fuel to some customers and had recommended that other suppliers purchase it.
Two years ago, Banco de Moçambique stopped contributing 50% to the import of liquid fuels.
The Energy Regulatory Authority says it is assessing the possible impacts of the shortage of foreign currency in Mozambique.
