The border crossing at Ressano Garcia, in Maputo province, will, as of today, December 13 until January 10, operate 24 hours a day to facilitate the mobility of people and goods between Mozambique and South Africa during the festive season.
Official figures indicate that about 300 thousand people will cross the national borders, and of these 250 thousand will do so through the Ressano Garcia crossing point, the largest in the country, according to information given at the launch of operation "Assantissana" 2021/2022, which aims to combine efforts for the comfort and safety of travelers.
Of the expected travelers, 50 thousand will use the borders of Ponta do Ouro, Goba and Namaacha, in Maputo province, which will operate from 7am to 6pm.
The special timetable aims to increase efficiency in the movement of incoming Mozambicans and tourists, as well as merchandise during the festive season.
With the extension of the opening hours of the borders and the increased flow of migrants, we will allocate more human resources, computer equipment and increase the number of service counters, according to the spokesman for the National Migration Service (SENAMI) in the province of Maputo, Juca Bata.
He also explained that to avoid congestion during the process of visa issuance and clearance of goods in Ressano Garcia will be opened, on the South African side, the post of kilometer seven (Km-7) that will ensure the movement of entries into the country. On the Mozambican side, the kilometer four (Km-4) will be used for the return to neighboring South Africa.
The opening of the pedestrian canal is also planned.
As for Covid-19 testing, the person in charge assured that this will be done at all crossing points and free of charge. For greater flexibility of the testing and to avoid flooding, a private company will be hired.
reiterating that no fee will be charged for the test by the Mozambican health authorities.
