The Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Alexis Meyer Cirkel, expects a robust recovery of the Mozambican economy in the short and medium term, stressing that there will be no major impact from the suspension of Total's LNG Project in Afungi, because the level of interconnection of the domestic economy to this project is still very low.
Speaking at the Economic Briefing on "Economic Outlook for Mozambique", Alexis Cirkel minimized the impact of the suspension of the Total Project on the recovery of the national economy, however, he stressed that its continuity would be very important for the rapid growth and integration of national SMEs in this Project.
Alexis Cirkel did not point out when the resumption of IMF support for the State Budget (suspended because of hidden debts), and stressed that the IMF continues to support Mozambique in the fiscal component and in technical and financial assistance through credit facilitation mechanisms, referring to the 415 million dollars made available to support Mozambique under Cyclone Idai and covid-19.
