ExxonMobil announced, this Thursday, the donation of about 18 tons of food and hygiene products, corresponding to 75 thousand dollars, to displaced people who are victims of terrorist actions in Cabo Delgado province.
According to ExxonMobil's General Manager in Mozambique, Jos Evens, "food security, personal health, and livelihood restoration are the primary concerns plaguing the IDP community."
In the statement sent to the media, Jos Evens reiterated that his institution will continue to cooperate with local officials as well as with its partners to continue to ensure support for communities affected by terrorism.
The donation from the US oil company consisted of various products, including oil, rice, sardines, tea, sugar, and hygiene products that should benefit about 1,200 people who fled their districts.
On behalf of the Mozambican state, it was the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD) that received the donations, recognizing that "they are crucial to the government's humanitarian response to the displaced.
ExxonMobil leads, with Italy's Eni, the consortium that will explore for natural gas in Area 4 of the Rovuma basin, off the coast of Cabo Delgado.
Armed groups have terrorized Cabo Delgado province since 201 and have caused more than 3,100 deaths. The Islamic State claims some of these terrorist incursions.
