EDM guarantees full replacement of damage caused by tropical storm Filipo

EDM garante reposição total dos danos causados pela tempestade tropical Filipo

The public company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) guarantees that it has already finished repairing the damage caused by the severe tropical storm "Filipo" that hit the central and southern regions of the country on March 12 and 13.

The storm knocked down around a thousand poles and destroyed other electrical infrastructure, causing EDM a loss of 60 million meticais. As a result, around 100,000 EDM customers were left without electricity.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, EDM spokesman António Nhassengo assured that at the moment the level of restoration of the damage caused by Tropical Storm "Filipo" is close to 100%, highlighting more progress in the provinces of Sofala, Inhambane and Gaza, with only Bairro Luís Cabral in Maputo city still to go, where due to the flooding of some houses it has not been possible to restore the electricity supply.

"We have homes that are still under water and we had to interrupt the operation of three Transformer Stations (PTs), because if we maintained the electricity supply, these customers would run the risk of creating a circuit and or even electrocution of the water that could ultimately endanger human life," explained the source, quoted by the AIM.
