Directora-geral do FMI destaca “bom desempenho” da economia moçambicana

The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, is positive about the cooperation between Maputo and the financial institution and praised the good performance of the Mozambican economy.

According to a post by the head of the Mozambican state, Filipe Nyusi, on his Facebook page, quoted by VOA, Kristalina Georgieva praised the country's "macroeconomic performance" which is, in her view, "the result of building strong institutions and implementing good policies".

"We talked about the performance of Mozambique's economy and she showed that she was attentive to all developments, citing as some examples low inflation, strong reserves, rising economic growth and a strengthened fiscal position," reads the publication.

For her part, the managing director of the IMF said that the Maputo government has put "good policies into practice".

"We have an active program with Mozambique and I am pleased to see that the country's fiscal situation has strengthened, growth is up and inflation is down, reserves are strong," concluded Kristalina Georgieva at the end of the 30-minute meeting with Filipe Nyusi.

On January 8, the IMF approved the third assessment of the assistance plan for Mozambique, which allowed for the "immediate disbursement" of 60.7 million dollars in aid to the General State Budget (OE).

The Mozambican statesman is in Washington for the international conference in defense of the Miombo Forest, which ends today, Thursday (18).
