Cost of living increased by 2.75% in August 2024

Data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) reveals that in August, the cost of living for Mozambicans became more expensive, with inflation of 2.5% compared to the same period in 2023.

However, this represents a deflation of 0.11% compared to July, the fourth in a row. In July, the Consumer Price Index stood at 2.95%

Year-on-year inflation over 12 months was 3.04% in June, 3.07% in May, 3.26 in April, 3.03 in March, 4% in February, 4.19% in January, and 5.3% in December.

Prices deflated by 0.05% in July, by 0.21% in June and by 0.38% in May.

"The food and non-alcoholic beverages division stood out, contributing a negative 0.11 percentage points to the total monthly variation," notes the document quoted by Notícias.

The country ended 2023 with a total inflation rate of 7.1%, compared to the government's forecast of 7%.
