The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) has reacted to statements made by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, according to which the trade union organization "does not respect its limits of action".
Moreno made these statements recently at the closing of the first Niassa Investment Forum in the city of Lichinga.
The CTA believes that this was a reaction to the criticisms and appeals to the government made by its president, Agostinho Vuma, in the Economic Briefinglast week in the city of Maputo.
The CTA says that it found Minister Moreno's statements strange, as they distracted from the subject that brought him to Lichinga. In the confederation's view, by talking about the inquiry and its members, the Minister was dealing with something that was not his business.
"Instead of taking stock of the tangible aspects of the forum, sending a message of encouragement to all those who want to invest in Niassa and/or Mozambique, the Minister thought it was more relevant to talk about the CTA and its members, something that is not within his remit," reads a note from the entrepreneurs sent to the media.
In the document, the CTA clarifies the aspects that are said to have strained the Ministry of Industry and Trade, namely regarding the export of bóer beans; the "hasty" introduction of the Conformity Assessment Program (PAC), which is resulting in high costs for companies and has the potential to undermine the business environment, as well as INTERTEK's "forced" action to implement the PAC "even before the approval of the new Ministerial Diploma"; and on the CTA's actions to create business opportunities for Mozambican companies in other territories.
The trade unionists end the document by stressing their willingness to continue with mechanisms to improve their action in identifying barriers to the country's business environment.
