Superior Council of the Judiciary expels eight bailiffs for corrupt practices

Conselho Superior da Magistratura expulsa oito oficiais de justiça por práticas de corrupção

The Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office (CSMMP) announced yesterday (15) the dismissal and expulsion of a group of eight Judicial Officers and Assistant Judicial Officers from the provincial prosecutors' offices in Nampula, Manica, Zambézia and Sofala.

This involves the expulsion of three bailiffs and assistant bailiffs, in the categories of District Law Clerk and District Court Clerk, from the staff of the Nampula and Manica Provincial Prosecutor's Offices.

In a statement quoted by AIMThe CSMMP explains that the expulsion is due to the use of their functions for their own benefit and to the detriment of third parties, by requesting and receiving money in order to facilitate the release of an arrested defendant and the closure of a case under investigation.

"The decision was taken at the XXI Ordinary Session of the Plenary, held on April 3 and 5, and also decided to dismiss five (5) officers with the ranks of Assistant Law Clerk and District Court Clerk from the staff of the Provincial Prosecutors' Offices of Zambézia, Manica, Sofala and the Maputo Provincial Anti-Corruption Office," reads the note.

The document also adds that "the aforementioned sanctions result from the violation of professional duties and principles, namely zeal, legality, dignity, loyalty and honesty".
