Council of Ministers doubles the salary of the President of the Republic

The Council of Ministers approved an increase of 100% in the monthly salary of the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi. The Head of State used to receive 400,000 meticais and will now receive 800,000 meticais, according to evidence.

"Among the changes there was an increase in the salary of the President of the Republic by more than 100%, from the current 400 thousand to 800 thousand meticais that he will bring to the table of his family," reads the portal.

The source refers to the changes in the Single Salary Table applicable to public servants, including the holders or members of public bodies, at the level of the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches, as well as the Defense and Security Forces of Mozambique, approved in September last year.

"By contrast, the salary of an auxiliary, which is a kind of civil service minimum wage is 7 528.00 meticais, which is about 0.9 percent, or less than 1 percent of President Nyusi's salary," the newspaper writes.

The evidencias also indicates the subsequent steps of those public positions that will have exorbitant increases in the base salary until reaching the lowest one.
