The Chinese government donated 20 million meticals in food to its Mozambican counterpart, this Thursday, in order to minimize the suffering of the people of Cabo Delgado province, victims of terrorism.
The Chinese government has delivered 200 tons of rice, 300 tons of corn starch, and 24,000 liters of cooking oil. Moreover, China promises to support the reconstruction process in the destroyed areas.
On the occasion the ambassador of China, Wang Hejum, said that his country's government "is willing to participate in the integrated development of the north and to encourage the active participation of Chinese companies in infrastructure construction."
For his part, the deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique considered that the donation will help alleviate the suffering of families displaced by armed attacks, emphasizing the longevity of the China-Mozambique cooperation.
"The donation will have a profound impact on our citizens who are faced with the harsh reality of seeking alternative means of survival," said Manuel Gonçalves.
Cabo Delgado province is rich in natural gas, but has been terrorized since 2017 by armed rebels, with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.
The conflict has caused more than 3,100 deaths, according to the ACLED conflict registration project, and more than 817,000 displaced people, according to national authorities.
