Cabo Delgado: Moçambique continua a ‘namorar’ Exxon Mobil para voltar… ao gás

Mozambique is still counting on the operationalization of the liquefied natural gas exploration project in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin, in Cabo Delgado province, valued at 46 billion US dollars.

To this end, the country continues to maintain contact with the parties involved in the project, including the US oil company, Exxon Mobil. The contacts are aimed at making the Final Investment Decision (FID).

"Area 4 has activated the force majeure clause. We are working with all the players in Area 1 and Area 4 so that activities can begin as soon as possible," said Nazario Bangale, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Petroleum Institute.

Quoted by NewsHe assured that "there have been regular and natural meetings between the regulator and the concessionaires and, when the time comes, we will take the next steps".

Later this year, Walter Kainsteiner, head of Exxon Mobil, met with the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, and assured that the multinational is still carefully analyzing the dates for the DFI.

Exxon Mobil's project plans to produce 18 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year. It has an offshore exploration component and an onshore processing component.
