Cabo Delgado: Entrepreneurs say they are accumulating losses with the upsurge in terrorist attacks

Cabo Delgado: Empresários dizem estar a acumular prejuízos com o recrudescimento dos ataques terroristas

Businesspeople in Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country, say they are accumulating losses as a result of the upsurge in terrorist attacks in recent weeks. The warning was given by the president of the Cabo Delgado Business Council.

The president of the Cabo Delgado Business Council, Mamudo Irache, stressed that businesspeople in the northern province are "desperate" with the return of terrorist attacks in recent weeks. Quoted by RFI, the source warns that the new wave of terrorist attacks, since December, has conditioned economic recovery and makes businesspeople apprehensive.

"Since the rumors of the resumption of activities in the Rovuma basin began, the 'Jihad' has intensified its activities, it has resumed terrorist activity in the region, and this has brought great despair to the businesspeople of our province," said Mamudo Irache, noting that trucks spend several days in the town of Macomia waiting for an escort to reach the north.

The businessman also pointed to the lack of state support, especially for entrepreneurs who have been affected by terrorist actions: "We've heard of various forms of support, but they never reach the entrepreneur. But it's the same businesspeople who are insecure about their investments who are there. So the situation for the business sector is not good."

Meanwhile, this Monday, residents of the Chiúre district denounced a new attack that left at least four dead and destroyed several infrastructures.
