The Bank of Mozambique announced Wednesday the suspension of Standard Bank from the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market (MCI).

"It is communicated to the participating institutions of the MCI that Standard Bank Mozambique SA, due to suspension decided by the Bank of Mozambique, is banned, with immediate effect, from participating in all activities of the foreign exchange market," reads a central bank document to which Lusa had access, without further details.

A source connected to the communication area at Standard Bank, in Maputo, confirmed the information, but referred that, for the time being, the institution has no comments to make.
