AT bans sale of unsealed alcoholic beverages in Mozambique

The Tax Authority (AT) will ban the circulation and sale of alcoholic beverages without a stamp, starting next month, in the Mozambican territory. And, according to the President of the AT, Amélia Muendane, all control mechanisms will be ensured.

In fact, 10 tax cooperatives will be created in each province of Mozambique by the end of this year.

Beverage sealing should have started three weeks ago, as the mandatory process came into effect, postponed for three weeks.

For the current fiscal year, the Autoridade Tributaria foresees a growth in the State Budget of around 2.9% and 3.7% in 2023, and should collect 293.92 billion and 317 billion meticais, respectively. These targets should be achieved with the institution's new plan focused on a restructuring of commercial activity.

One of the reforms consists of "redefining the general principles that govern the Mozambican tax system, while also restructuring the General Tax Law," said the president, who hopes to see all the rules in place next year.

By December of this year, the AT intends to reduce the circulation of money in operations connected with the institution and sees this as a measure to combat corruption.

"We intend to: ensure that at least 80% of taxpayers execute their tax obligations, using electronic platforms; ensure the beginning of the implementation of the platform for the taxation of the digital economy, by December this year. We must make the Institutional Risk Management Center functional, within the scope of internal control, by March 2022," said Amelia Muendane, quoted by "O pais".
