The Swedish Ambassador accredited to Mozambique, Mette Sunnergren, assured this Wednesday (23) in Maputo that her country has already invested more than two million Swedish kronor (around 200 million dollars) in electrification projects, with emphasis on the rehabilitation of the Mavuzi and Chicamba power stations and the construction of a national control center..
"This cooperation has given more than a million Mozambicans access to renewable and sustainable electricity, significantly improving their quality of life and boosting the economy," said Sunnergren, who was speaking at the IV RENMOZ 2025 conference, which is taking place in Maputo.
Quoted by AIMSunnergren made it known that Sweden is committed to supporting Mozambique's Energy Transition Strategy, in order to guarantee access to reliable and sustainable energy for all, establishing the country as a regional clean energy hub.
"The RENMOZ conference symbolizes collaboration and alignment between partners, increases efficiency, ensures that resources are used effectively and takes a cohesive approach," the diplomat added, stressing that Swedish cooperation with Mozambique, particularly in the energy sector, is a shining example of what can be achieved when nations work together.
For her part, the President of the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association, Meira Pereira, said that the country has taken a courageous step in the energy transition.
"The energy transition is an opportunity for us to reposition ourselves, a way of proving that Africa has its own proposals, concrete solutions and possible paths," he said.
