According to a LAM press release quoted by the Sunday newspaper, the choice of Américo Muchanga was the result of an election made at a session of LAM's Extraordinary General Meeting, which decided to change the company's corporate governance structure.

"At an Extraordinary General Meeting, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, SA - LAM decided to change the company's corporate governance structure, and at the same meeting elected Mr. Américo Muchanga as Chairman of the Board of Directors, with effect from July 10, 2024," reads the statement.

During his professional career, Américo Muchanga was also director-general of the National Communications Institute (INCM) and served as director of Planning and of the Computer Center at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM).

Meanwhile, the same session approved the dismissal of the company's interim general manager, Theunis Crous, from the South African company Fly Modern Ark.
