Gaza: Tourist agents in Praia do Bilene consider closing doors due to wave of demonstrations

Gaza: Agentes turísticos da Praia do Bilene ponderam encerrar portas devido à onda de manifestações

Nearly two thousand workers in the hotel and tourism sector are at risk of losing their jobs in the Vila Municipal da Praia do Bilene, in Gaza province, due to the wave of violent demonstrations that have taken place in the region since Wednesday last week.

These are a total of 94 hotel and tourism units, whose owners are considering declaring bankruptcy due to the negative impact and public disorder caused by the demonstrators.

The information was provided by the administrator of the Bilene district, Raul Momade, in a publication by the Radio MozambiqueHe emphasized that the presence of tourists has drastically reduced in the region due to the blocking of roads and the vandalization of public and private infrastructures.

"Faced with this scenario, tour operators are finding it difficult to meet their obligations, particularly the payment of taxes and workers' salaries," said Raúl Momade.

Recently, 35 workers lost their jobs after protesters vandalized three commercial establishments in Vila da Macia, Bilene district.

"Speaking of Bilene Beach, we have around 94 tourist resorts there that are home to around two thousand employees. So, if we put Praia de Bilene in a situation of insecurity and unease, if we are imminently putting around two thousand employees out of work, then we should really think about what kind of country we need," he said.
