The Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO) announced this Saturday that it will resume collecting tolls in all the plazas under its management from tomorrow, Monday (27).
The suspension of charges was due to the post-election demonstrations in 2024, which resulted in acts of vandalism against the infrastructures managed by the company.
In a statement, REVIMO argues that "the fees guarantee the maintenance of infrastructure and roads".
A few days ago, Venâncio Mondlane, the former presidential candidate who is leading the biggest challenge to the election results in Mozambique since the country's first elections, publicly argued that no driver should pay a toll for the first 100 days.
However, last week, Trans African Concessions (TRAC), the South African company that has the concession for around 570 km of the N4 highway and manages the tolls on the N4 between Mozambique and South Africa, resumed collecting the fees, and the act reactivated a wave of protests by motorists and residents around the Maputo tollbooth.
