Mozambique exported one million tons of beans and peas to India in 2023

Moçambique exportou um milhão de toneladas de feijões e ervilhas para Índia em 2023

Exports of beans and peas from Mozambique to India reached one million tons last year. The figures were released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC), noting that the Indian market is the largest destination for Mozambican products, to which exports of soybeans, cashew nuts and copra are also growing.

In a Sunday newspaperThe national director of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Claire Zimba, revealed that in addition to mineral coal, there has been a growing trend in the export of oilseeds in the country in recent years.

According to Claire Zimba, as far as beans are concerned, India received around one million tons last year, which is considered a good indicator, since in the same period in 2023 exports stood at around 270,000 tons.

"In the case of beans and peas, we consider them to be our preferred mechanism of access to the Indian market, which is the fourth largest importer of our products," Zimba emphasized.

He also stressed that the country can export for as long as it can, as long as the Commodity Exchange is involved. "We are encouraged because our relationship with India is not merely commercial. It is based on cultural and traditional comforts. But we think there needs to be more value added," he added.
