Government suspends issuance of crab-catching licenses in Zambézia

Governo suspende emissão de licenças de captura de caranguejo na Zambézia

The fishing authorities in Zambézia province, in the center of the country, have suspended the issuing of new licenses for the capture and export of mangrove crab, as a measure to avoid "the risk of extinction of that species".

According to the head of the Department of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries at the Provincial Services for Economic Activities in Zambézia, Agnelo Bissane, quoted by the NewsCurrently, catching and exporting is allowed to companies that already have licenses, and the licensing of new operators is also suspended.

Fishing authorities in Zambézia indicate that "last year more than 900 tons of mangrove crab were exported".
