The president-in-office of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), João Lourenço, defends the construction of road infrastructure in order to develop mobility and trade between the countries of the organization.
Speaking last Friday (14) during a meeting with the members of the Executive Secretariat in Gaborone, Botswana, where other projects were also discussed, namely the creation of a regional tourism visa, João Lourenço also mentioned the need for SADC to make the most of the great energy potential that the countries of the region have, mobilizing sources of funding for the construction of hydroelectric dams, wind farms and photovoltaic plants.
"The aim is also to build lines to transport the energy produced in some countries to others," added the SADC president-in-office.
According to RFIThe Angolan head of state said that this would only be possible "if we all contribute to the operationalization of the SADC Regional Development Fund".
Meanwhile, on the same day, the organization's Committee of Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General met by videoconference to examine various agreements.
Among them was the creation of a regional tourism UNIVISA, a document that could allow international tourists to move around the SADC region in order to increase the region's market share. Also on the table was a draft agreement for the creation of a SADC Court along the lines of the European Union.
