The strategic partner for the construction of the Mphanda Nkuwa dam in Tete province will be announced today. The energy infrastructure will be built 60 kilometers downstream from Cahora Bassa, along the Zambezi River, in the same province.

The call for proposals closed in March this yearSeven companies, organized into two consortia, bid for the project. The first is made up of ETC Holding, ZESCO Limited, CECOT (a subsidiary of MotaEngil) and PetroSA (a subsidiary of South Africa's Central Energy Fund) and the second of Electricité de France, TotalEnergies and Japan's Sumitomo Corporation, writes the News.

The winning consortium is expected to invest between 500 and 700 million dollars and join Mozambique's Electricidade de Moçambique and Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa. The consortium's share of the total investment in the project is estimated at 4.5 billion dollars, including the power transmission line on the Temane-Maputo line.

An estimated 1,500 MW of production capacity is planned for the dam, which could increase the competitiveness of the private sector through the development of infrastructure and energy business.
