The Port of Maputo recently launched at FACIM a program called Portfólio, an initiative to support and enhance the value of local suppliers through which micro, small and medium Mozambican companies and individuals can have access to opportunities to supply products and services to the Port of Maputo, create partnerships and networking.
The program aims to address the need to use foreign service providers and products, in specific areas of maintenance (in the operations area), that can be sourced locally.
"The idea is that even singular individuals who may feel they don't have the dimension to supply a company like the Port, have the opportunity to apply to provide these services, and that with us they can grow," said Marla Calado, head of operations at the Port of Maputo, during the debate on local content promoted by the same company (Port of Maputo) in partnership with MZNews.
Calado also explained that there are some products and services in the areas of metalworking and machine hydraulics, for example, that "can be supplied locally, although this will require the training of suppliers in order to meet the service standards provided to our customers.
Other areas demanded by the Port of Maputo under this program are air conditioning maintenance and repair on machinery, as well as industrial maintenance or cleaning.
The registration phase ends on October 15th. Until then, there will also be visits to schools and technical institutes, as well as associations in these areas, in order to make the project known. The final selection process will also include a workshop to be held in the Port of Maputo with the selected companies and individuals.
