The Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) is up against the clock and has until June 23 to convince CAF inspectors to approve the Estadio Nacional do Zimpeto (ENZ) for the qualifiers for the CAN-International Algeria-2022, which begin next month.
The case is that the ENZ is not on the list of stadiums approved by CAF, and therefore cannot host the matches of the first and second qualifying rounds for the CAN-2022.
In this sense, the FMF must submit a detailed report to the body on the conditions of the sports venue by the 23rd, and if it fails to do so, it will continue to be disqualified for international matches.
It is known that the campaign for the CAN 2022 will run between July 22 and 31, for the first knockout round, and between August 26 and September 4 the second. If Zimpeto is not approved, the "Mambas" are forced to play Zambia out of doors.
If it passes that knockout stage, the National Team will remain banned from playing in the country, unless in the interval between the first and second knockout stages the FMF submits to the CAF for inspection and approval of the ENZ.
The information of the continuation of the ban of "Zimpeto" was made public on Thursday by CAF, through a circular in which, in addition to Mozambique, the governing body of continental soccer listed 25 other teams that cannot host games in their respective countries.
Note that Mozambique recently had to pay more than 2 million meticais to rent a soccer stadium in South Africa for the first leg of the qualifying group for the African Nations Championship (CAN).
