Zambézia: 3500 families receive agricultural inputs

Zambézia: 3500 famílias recebem insumos agrícolas

Around 3,500 families will benefit from agricultural equipment and inputs allocated by the Zambezi Agency, as part of the reinforcement of production capacity for the second season.

These are tractors and their respective add-ons, autocombines for harvesting rice, specialized potato and hay production kits, irrigation systems, just over 40 tons of various seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, in an investment of around 53 million Meticais.

The amount is provided by the government, through the Zambezi Agency.

The initiative aims to increase the levels of production, productivity and availability of food on the national market, according to the director of technical and financial assistance at the Zambezi Agency, Nelson Rodrigues, quoted in a publication by "O País".

"We have some specific equipment for growing rice, which is typical here in Zambézia, but in the segment of investments that have been underway for two, three years, for example, we had the opportunity to deliver a high-capacity self-combine, so up to 900 hectares (...) thus increasing the mechanized harvesting capacity to three thousand hectares in this province alone," said Rodrigues.

According to the source, the equipment and various means are aimed at boosting the production of some strategic products for development in the Zambezi Valley.

The governor of Zambézia, Pio Matos, argues that the agricultural equipment and means could bring hope to the agricultural sector, which has been devastated by the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon, which severely affected the first season of the 2024/2025 campaign.

"From our colleagues in agriculture, we expect greater coordination with all the stakeholders to ensure good management of equipment and use of inputs. We are aware that, although we have delivered these inputs and equipment, we still have other challenges to face," said the governor of Zambézia, quoted in the publication.

The resources will be allocated to the districts of Nicoadala, Mopeia, Luabo, Morrumbala, Derre, Namacurra, Mocuba, Maganja da Costa and Mocubela, where around 4,300 tons of various agricultural products are expected to be produced.
