Private operators of drinking water, congregated in AFORAMO, postponed to next December the decision on the suspension of drinking water supply in Maputo city. However, they demand compensation or demarcation of areas of action to end the dispute that opposes them with the Water Supply Investment and Property Fund (FIPAG).
According to the Association of Water Suppliers in Mozambique (AFORAMO), compensation or demarcation of areas of operation are the only possible solutions that may allow its continuity in the water supply market in Maputo. As there is no solution between the parties, the private operators insist on cutting off the supply in December, which is actually a delay, considering that the association had planned to paralyze the activity this Saturday, November 6.
For its part, the government, through the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, recognizes that there are flaws in this process, due to the fact that the expansion works have started without prior notice to the private operators that have long been in the market.
