IFAD invests USD 275M in agro-livestock and fisheries projects

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is providing about $275 million in agro-livestock and fisheries projects to reduce poverty levels and improve household incomes in rural Mozambique.

According to the vice president of IFAD, cooperation with the Mozambican state should continue so that the joint effort helps improve the living conditions of the population in remote areas. This includes a focus on building water supply infrastructure, agricultural markets, agro-food value chains, and fisheries production.

"Our commitment is to contribute to poverty reduction, improved food security and livelihood resilience to ensure inclusive rural transformation," said Jyostna Puri.

In this sense, IFAD is working to increase agricultural production and red meat production, as well as promoting small-scale fishing in order to ensure food and good nutrition for the population.

The IFAD representative visited the districts of Marracuene and Manhiça, in Maputo province, as part of a tour of the country.

She was pleased with the progress made in building infrastructure in rural areas, especially the provision of water for irrigation, domestic consumption, and livestock.
