Air France postpones start of flights to Maputo

The French company Air France announced the postponement of the start of flights connecting Maputo and Paris, initially scheduled for June.

The company does not give the reasons for the postponement, but informs that they are rescheduled for October 31.

Air France even advertised the sale of tickets through its website ́ on the Internet ́. In Mozambique, the promotion was done through the Cotur travel agency.

A Cotur source confirmed the postponement of Air France flights, later explaining that sold tickets will be rescheduled at no additional cost to customers.

"In this case, because the postponement is the company's own, all tickets sold can be rescheduled and there will be no cost to customers," he assured.

Without specifying the numbers, the source pointed out that there were already many people expressing interest in the Maputo-Paris route.

"I don't mean in terms of sales per se, but there were, in the last few days, many people contacting us to find out more details about the flight," he stressed.

In recent years, France's interest in the Mozambican market has been growing considerably, a fact that has been boosted in part by the entry of the oil company Total into the natural gas projects in the Rovuma basin.

In fact, France has the second largest European business community in Mozambique, operating mainly in the energy sector, transport and logistics, as well as in services, namely banking, human resources, consulting, and auditing, among others.

Since 2015, the leaders of large companies operating in the country decided to create France-Mozambique Business Club.

In 2017, the two countries initialed an agreement allowing their respective airlines to establish and operate scheduled passenger, freight and mail transport lines, in addition to allowing their aircraft to fly over the territories of both states and make technical stopovers.
