230 million meticais are already available for communities in nine Districts of Zambezia Province, integrated in the carbon sequestration project, with funding from the World Bank. The amounts per district vary from seven to 38 million meticais.
According to the benefit sharing plan, Pebane District will receive the highest amount, estimated to be around thirty-eight million meticals, while Ile, receives just over seven million.
The evaluation of the communities' projects starts next week.
This Thursday and Friday, the training of the members of the evaluation committees for the community projects takes place in nine districts.
The Districts covered are: Mocuba, Maganja da Costa, Ile, Gurue, Alto- Molocue, Mulevala, Gilé, Mocubela and Pebane.
The President of the Platform for Integrated Development of Zambezia, Daniel Maula, believes that allocating the value to local communities will contribute to biodiversity conservation:
Last year, Mozambique received from the World Bank, 6.4 million dollars, for carbon sequestration in Zambezia Province. It is this money that is being allocated to the communities.
Another part goes to the private sector and state institutions.
